Description

Bei der chorlosen Jakobikirche (das erste Mal 1303 urkundlich erwähnt) bekam der Turm eine besondere Gestaltung und durch die ornamentale Vielfalt in Blenden und Friesen erhielt die Kirche ihr eigenartiges Aussehen. Durch einen Blitzeinschlag und ein sich daraus entwickeltes Feuer in Jahre 1662 verlor der Turm seinen damals spitzen Helm. Das Altstadt-Feuer zog auch die Spitzen der Nikolaikirche in Mitleidenschaft.

Im 30-jährigen Krieg (1618 - 1648) litt die Kirche unter dem Beschuss von Wallensteins Artillerie und 150 Jahre später verwüsteten die Franzosen das Gotteshaus. Am schwersten wurde die Jakobikirche im 2. Weltkrieg durch Fliegerbomben beschädigt.
