| Description |
English: One bay of sixteen identical FM transmitting antennas below the 102nd floor observation room of the Empire State Building. Designed by the Alford Manufacturing Company of Boston, these sixteen and another set like them above the same windows provided a common master antenna for nearly all of New York's FM stations from 1965 until the 1980s. Nearly all he stations were 5.4kw horizontal and 3.8kw vertical. When the stations all moved up the tower to other antennas, the old Alfords began service as auxilliary antennas for these stations: WQXR/105.9, WNYC-FM/93.9, WLTW/106.7, WSKQ/97/9, WXNY/96.3, WWFS/102.7, WRKS/98.7, WBAI/99.5, WBLS/107.5 and WRXP/101.9. Most are 4.6kw horizontal and 3.3kw vertical. WBLS and WBAI are 3.3/2.3kw, WLTW is 4.7/3.4, WQXR is .7 horizontal and WNYC is .8 horizontal. |
