| Description |
Daedalea ambigua Berk. Image location: Borovoye National Park, Akmola District, Kazakhstan Daedaleopsis ambigua, Polyporaceae, Aphyllophorales. (Трутовик-мшанка.) Yellowish-white flattened stiff mushroom with bryozoa-like pore structure. Cap: 8-18cm wide, semicircular or fan-shaped; slightly convex or flat, smooth near margin, uneven and somewhat fine bumpy in the centre, whitish with indistinct concentric semi-circles (dull cream, yellowish-white and white); old cap sometimes colored with algae. Cap sometimes grows through branches, and needles including them and other vegetation fragments into a cap. Flesh: 0.5-2cm thick, white up to yellowish-white. Tubes: 0.2-0.4cm long; pores long (0.2-0.3 × 1-4mm), pore structure somewhat bryozoa-like. Spore print is white. Stalk: absent or short (up to 0.5cm) as fixation base at the edge of bottom side. Habitat: single or small clusters scattered on the old partially rotten pine-tree minor birch stumps or trunks. Edibility: stiff as a wood, no data on soft young mushroom (ants often eat this dry mushroom). Season: June-September. Dried specimen # 760 is in Karaganda town, Kazakhstan Recognized by sight
