English: View of Wyck and the river Meuse in Maastricht, Netherlands. The street in the centre (left to right) is Wycker Grachtstraat, which divides the quarter into a more densely populated, western section and a sparsely populated eastern part. The former contains the medieval bridge, the church of St Martin and the Wycker Kruittoren or gunpowder tower (on the right). The largest building in the east section was the monastery of the Order of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Annunciatenklooster). Close to the city wall are several barracks.
Detail of the 20th-century copy of the Maquette of Maastricht, an exact scale model of the city and its fortifications in 1750, a project coordinated by French engineer Larcher d'Aubencourt during the French occupation of Maastricht. The original is in the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, France. The copy is in the Centre Céramique in Maastricht. |
