Description
English: An Anna's Hummingbird visits a "peaches and cream" Grevillea, which is a hybrid of Grevillea bipninnatfida and Grevillea banksii. The kitchen window of the place where we're staying in San Marino, California.

There is a narrow range of time during which the sun is on the flower and not on the window, making the shooting situation ideal, because the bird's irridescent green and red color can be seen; and if I were outdoors the bird would never get this close. Here behind the window I'm about 2 feet away, and shooting on a tripod in a spot where I can stand out of the bird's sight and just press on the shutter button otherwise unseen.

The camera is my trusty old Canon5D Mark III, and the lens is a borrowed 24-70mm F2.8 L, which I wanted to use so I could open it up to F2.8 to blur the background (the pink thing is a giant inflated peacock floating in a pool) and stop the bird's wing motion at 1/6400th of a second.

Turns out the depth of field was a bit too narrow, and the speed still wasn't fast enough. But there are still some nice shots in here, and I got a nice Easter morning education out of it.
