Summary[edit]
Description2021 11 20 whas 19.jpg |
English: This big fat 663-foot tower radiates WHAS/840 AM, Kentucky's oldest radio station (dating from 1922) and also its largest in terms of coverage, reputation and ratings.
With a signal that covers much of Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois by day—and covers half the U.S. and much of Canada at night—WHAS is one of the original "clear channel" stations, meaning it had no interference at night from other stations on 840 AM. Also, while most AM stations are being sidelined in the ratings, or duplicate themselves with FM signals, WHAS persists atop the ratings in its home market. As Scott Fybush reports here, this many-acre site, out in rural horse country east of Louisville, has been here since 1938. Some technical details: Site Location: 38-15-40.0 N 85-25-43.0 W (NAD 27) Power: 50 kW, Non-Directional Pattern Type: Theoretical Tower Electrical Height: 201.1 Degrees; 199.37 meters RMS Theoretical: 412 mV/meter (per kW) or 2913.28 mV/meter at 50 kW |
