Description
English: A round towered church, unique to the east of England, one of only 123 left standing. You cannot mention St Nicholas's without including St Andrew's East Lexham. Situated on the same road and so close to each other they are both stunning survivors from the middle ages.

Both churches are well loved and looked after, both quirky and original. St Nicholas' has a limewashed tower, unique in shape and look. The tower has a face with a surprised expression which can be seen from the west. Oval in shape, it is flatter on the east and west side and can be disconcerting when viewed from different sides. Inside the east window is high in the east wall, the front pews are built around the pulpit. If you sat at the front the Vicar would be right over your head when preaching! The addition of some model yachts and ships is a nod to St Nicholas as the patron saint of seafarers.

Beautiful views and remote location just add to the magic of this little church.
