Description
Deutsch: Ottilie W. Roederstein; Bildnis von Prof. Herxheimer, 1911. Die Villa Herxheimer liegt in der Zeppelinallee 47, Frankfurt-Bockenheim, und wurde für Karl Herxheimer (1861–1942) gebaut. Er war ein führender Dermatologe seiner Zeit und gehört zu den Mitbegründern der Universität in Frankfurt. Er beauftragte 1911 den damaligen Stararchitekten Bruno Paul (1874–1968) mit dem Bau der Villa. Der Mitbegründer des Werkbundes baute ein Gesamtkunstwerk. Der äußere Stil lehnt sich am Klassizismus und am deutschen Biedermeier an. Der zweigeschossige Baukörper ist dreigeteilt, wobei sich zwischen den zwei vorspringenden schmalen Eckbauten ein breiterer eingezogener Mittelbau befindet. Als führender Innenarchitekt plante Paul auch den Innenausbau. 1942 wurde der Hausherr, vielfacher Mäzen Frankfurts, als 80-Jähriger aus Frankfurt nach Theresienstadt deportiert und dort umgebracht. Seine Ehefrau wurde in Auschwitz ermordet. Die Villa wurde nach dem Krieg bis 1968 Sitz des britischen Konsulats, dann für 25 Jahre Sitz einer Werbeagentur. Heute ist die Villa Geschäftssitz von Rechtsanwälten und Stiftungen.
