Summary[edit]

Description

More class 150 action on the Cornish branches!

A more positive story centres around Penryn on the Truro to Falmouth branch. Back in Beeching cuts in the 1960, the Falmouth branch was threatened with closure. However, it survived being rationalised to a single track, one train working. Despite paralleled by local buses, rail traffic levels began to pick up. In 2008 the passing loop was re-instated. However to avoid re-building the footbridge and disused platform, the existing platform was extended. As such Falmouth bound trains enter the loop and cross back over to the extended platform behind the camera.

So today, the branch enjoys a 30 minute frequency of trains and to assist with revenue protection, Truro station is the only station west of Plymouth to be fitted with barrier gates.

Seen here is 150.120 on 2F74, 10:51 Truro to Falmouth Docks entering Penryn.
