English: This map shows the global carbon monoxide (CO) distribution at 18,000 feet averaged between March 30 - April 1 as measured by the AIRS instrument on the Aqua satellite. Red and yellow areas indicate higher CO concentrations, while blue indicates areas of lower concentration. Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas and its sources include car engines, industrial activity, volcanoes and forest fires. Like other gases in our atmosphere, CO is spread around the planet by prevailing winds. To view this data on your computer, visit: eyes.nasa.gov
