It's hard to believe that I've needed corrective lenses for nearly 20 years. I got my first pair of glasses when I was 9 years old because I was having a hard time reading the chalkboard at school. At that time, the doctor told me that I would only have to wear them in class, or if I was straining to see something far away. Within a year, I was wearing them all the time. My eyes have been becoming steadily worse as time progresses on. If I didn't have any corrective lenses, being contacts or glasses, I probably would be considered legally blind. I can only see clearly a few inches in front of my face. There's a funny story about how I made the switch from wearing glasses to contacts. I was seventeen at the time, and the glasses that I had were old and practically falling apart. I had tape (yes, like a nerd!) holding them together until my next optomotrist appointment that was scheduled. Anyway, I was performing in my first marching band parade for Oldham County Day. Everything was fine, and when the band was getting ready to start marching down Jefferson street heading down toward the center of LaGrange, my band director, Mr. Rogers, told us not to break formation once we started moving. Well, while we were marching in time, my glasses decided that they didn't want to stay together anymore, and broke right at the bridge. I was able to catch half and quickly shove it into the pocket of my shorts, and the other hit the ground. Before I could quickly attempt to pick the other half up, we had started moving. So, to make a long story short, I went through the whole parade blind as a bat, and had to drive the 5 miles home as well. I had met up with my mother after the parade, before the band went back to school, and told her what happened, and she told me that when I got back home we were going to the optomotrist right away. That was also the day that I finally made the switch to contacts, and became less nerdy at school. Okay, maybe not that funny the way I told it, but it still makes me laugh, thinking about the time. As for right now, I need to make an optomotrist appointment right away. It took me about 10 minutes to find my son yesterday when I went to pick him up from daycare because I couldn't see him in the gym amongst 20 other kids. FGR - Pictures With Stories - 5 Sentence MINIMUM. |
