Description

Having arrived at Tattenham Corner on the 10:10 from Purley, 2EPB 6301 is seen at this terminus station on 31 March 1984. These 2-car EPBs (class 416) were refurbished by opening up compartments to improve passenger safety in addition to fluorescent lighting. And for those with an attention to detail, they spawned two unit numbers, one above each cab window in place of one above the headcode box. After replacing with more modern sliding door stock, some of these 2EPBs found their way to the North London Line for a short period.

Tattenham Corner station, close to Epsom Downs Racecourse is traditionally used by the Royal Train during Derby week. The station buildings seen in the background were damaged in 1993 when a train failed to stop. As a result they were later demolished despite being a listed structure to be replaced by more a basic wooden structure.
