Summary[edit]

Description

Class 319 dual-voltage electric multiple-unit (EMU) number 319425 named "Transforming Travel - First Capital Connect" (coach 77339 first) built by BREL York in 1987 or 1988 works 2H93 from St Albans to Bromley South on 22 October 2014. From the start of the Govia Franchise (14 September 2014) 24% of Govia Thameslink Railway services were delayed between 12 October 2014 and the 8 November 2014. Between 9 November and 6 December 2014 this improved slightly with only 21.3% being delayed but a further 4% were cancelled. Govia attribute this to train failure of old and new rolling stock and infrastructure problems e.g. <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/99279135@N05/15583827068/">track circuit failure</a>, while the watchdog London TravelWatch were also concerned about the lack of train drivers e.g. "<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/99279135@N05/14975418773/">an issue with the train crewe</a>" across the franchise. During the previous franchise First Capital Connect (FCC) had Alstoms TrainTracer on-board monitoring module added to the Train Control & Management System (TCMS) and Traction Control racks of all class 319s. This module monitors major components and reports data for developing faults and non-critical failures to a ground-based server for engineers to remotely analyse with maintenance management software and plan maintenance. GPS data collected also allows them to identify the precise location where a fault has occurred. Alstom claim that through this planned maintenance the amount of time trains are unavailable for use is reduced by 30%.
