| Description |
English: Bunia, Itui province, DR Congo - The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, was in Bunia, Ituri Province on the 23 and 24 January 2020. She visited displaced persons accommodated at the site of the Higher Pedagogical Institute (ISP) in Bunia, as well as victims of torture and sexual violence at SOFEPADI a center of rehabilitation for victims of sexual violence and torture. She also met with officials of MONUSCO, Government and leadership of opposing factions in the ongoing conflict in the Province. She was moved by the situation of the displaced persons and victims of sexual violence whom she met and promised to convey to the United Nations Security Council and to the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, their concerns as well as their hopes of seeing sustainable peace return to Djugu territory. |
