English: UPPER FRANCONIAN BRANCH LINE

The Bayreuth – Warmensteinach railway is a branch line in the Bavarian province of Upper Franconia in southern Germany . It is the last still partially intact of the seven branch lines, that formerly served the Fichtelgebirge . The branch line Bayreuth Hbf – Weidenberg – Warmensteinach was opened in 15th August 1896. It was the first branch line starting from Bayreuth and is still the only one in its section to Weidenberg. The Fichtelgebirge Railway was built to connect Bayreuth directly to Nuremberg was only possible following the completion of Neuenmarkt connection to the Ludwigs-Süd-Nord-Bahn in 1853.
