Description66250 Wembley to Dollands Moor 4D33 or 6D33 loaded steel to Ebange France (was 4O28) (16089068592).jpg |
66250 WBAT SCUNTHPRS 224O28C722 4 * DOLLANDSM N 4E26 DB Schenker Rail (UK) Ltd's class 66 (JT42CWR) number 66250 dedicated but not named "In memory of Robert K. Romak" for his involvement in the class 66 project painted in English, Welsh and Scottish Railway maroon livery with zigzag gold band, large number and EWS logo works 4D33 or 6D33 from Wembley European Freight Operations Centre to Dollands Moor Locomotive Holding Sidings on 23 December 2014. It was also photographed later on route by Steve Lee at Pluckley and by Nightshiftworker at Sandling. Having left Scunthorpe almost 1 hour early by this point it is running approximately 6 hours late. This service is used to transport steel in billet form mounted on FIA 'Multifret' twin intermodal flat wagons for export from Tata Steels Scunthorpe complex on South Humberside in Lincolnshire (see Andy Pictons photo) to a freight yard at Ebange in Eastern France via Dollands Moor and Calais Fréthun through the Channel Tunnel (click here for the route). Laurent Knop photographed Euro Cargo Rail's loco number E 186-317 at Valenciennes (Nord - department 59) hauling loaded wagons working from Calais Fréthun to Ebange on 2 April 2014. Nicolas Tomaszewski also videoed a loaded train passing Beuvrages hauled by Euro Cargo Rail's E186 162-4. Once in Ebange the steel is used at Tata's Hayange rail mill to produce rail for SNCF's LGV Est européenne construction programme to extend the French high-speed rail network. Numbers of the wagons being hauled included 33 70 4938 741 4 and 31 70 4938 717 6. Arriving too late at Dollands Moor to work the 4E26 return journey as planned this was instead taken by 66 number 154 in its normal slot. Instead 66250 returned northwards later hauling 7L23 with a Transfesa rake from Dollands Moor to Dagenham passing Ashford as photographed by Joshua Brown and more unusually seen passing West Malling at 14:15 by HSTHoward as this service typically travels up High Speed 1 (HS1). 66250 (works number 968702-250) was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 1999 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Fairload" at Newport Docks on 23 June 2000. 66250 was sold by DB Cargo to GBRf in 2017 and renumbered 66 number 789.
