Description 80-G-706932: Rear Admiral George L. Russell, USN, Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Navy, administering the oath of office at the Pentagon. Dan A. Kimball, a veteran pilot of World War I, was sworn in as the Assist Secretary of the Navy for Air. Shown: left to right: Mrs. Kimball, Dan A. Kimball, and Secretary of the Navy John L. Sullivan, and Rear Admiral Russell, released March 9, 1949. Kimball would later serve as the 51st Secretary of the Navy, 1951-53.
