| Description |
English: The Embassy of Japan hosted a reception to celebrate the 85th birthday of His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan, on the 3rd of December at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, with Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah as the Guest of Honor. As His Majesty the Emperor will abdicate on 30th of April 2019, the reception was the last for our current Emperor.
His Excellency, Mr Motohiko Kato, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam gave a speech and mentioned the recent activities of His Majesty the Emperor and his abdication next year. He also stated that His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince will succeed to the throne on 1st of May 2019. Additionally, Ambassador Kato stated that despite a series of natural disasters experienced by Japan this year, the country has now recovered and it is hoped that many Bruneians will choose Japan to enjoy their vacation by direct flight from Brunei Darussalam to Narita International Airport, Tokyo. The evening included a Judo performance by the Brunei Darussalam National Judo Federation and a Japanese dance ”Soran-Bushi” performance by the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association - UTB Chapter. There were also exhibitions from Japanese companies operating in Brunei and from car dealerships and distributors of Japanese food to introduce guests to their activities. Guests were served a selection of carefully prepared sushi to enjoy during the evening. |
