Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_88510_20220718_153614-01.jpeg Notes: הבריטים היו הראשונים שהקימו בחיפה נמל מודרני. בשנת 1922 אישר המהנדס הבריטי סר פרדריק פלמר שחיפה היא המקום המתאים ביותר להקמת נמל עם מים עמוקים, בארץ. ב- 31 באוקטובר 1933 הוכרזה פתיחת הנמל. לנמל הובאו אוניות המעפילים שנעצרו על ידי הצי הבריטי במהלך ואחרי מלחמת העולם השנייה, לפני שגורשו המעפילים למאוריציוס או לקפריסין; ב- 14 במאי 1948, עלה הנציב הבריטי האחרון אלן קנינגהם על אניית הצי, וציין את סופו של המנדט הבריטי בישראל. ביוני 1948 ראש ממשלת ישראל בן גוריון הגיע לנמל חיפה כדי לקבל שליטה על הנמל.
