Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_89402_20220823_103856.jpg Notes: ב 1953 התיישבה היאחזות נח"ל באזור בו נמצא בית ספר שדה עין גדי. החיילים עבדו בעבודות חקלאות שונות. היישוב אוזרח והפך לקיבוץ ב 1956. רוב מייסדיו הם בוגרי תנועות הנוער וגרעיני נח"ל. היישוב היה מבודד סמוך לגבול הירדני. ביולי 1959 עברו המתיישבים לשטח הגבוה העכשווי. אחרי מלחמת ששת הימים נסלל כביש לאורך חוף ים המלח מכיוון ירושלים, דרומה והפך את עין-גדי למרכז ביקורים. ענפי הכלכלה העיקריים הם תיירות וחקלאות. כל שטח הקיבוץ הוא גן בוטני ובו כ1000 זני צמחים שונים. ממפעל בקיבוץ משווקים מים מינרליים.
