Description

Looking NE (upstream) from wharf near foot of 2nd Street. In foreground, man walking on ramp to <a href="https://wordnik.com/words/wharf-boat" rel="nofollow">wharf boat</a> "Starship Landing". Kernan" is downbound below <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Kennedy_Memorial_Bridge" rel="nofollow">JFK</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Four_Bridge" rel="nofollow">Big Four</a> Bridges. At right, permanently moored barges provide some protection against stray vessels or other large objects drifting downstream and hitting "Star of Louisville" while it is moored. . Twin screw towboat "W. A. Kernan" (doc. # 559099, length 145 feet, breadth 48 feet, GM 16-645E5 diesels, 5600 hp. [later uprated to 6200 hp?]). Built in 1974 by <a href="http://www.shipbuildinghistory.com/shipyards/small/jeffboat.htm" rel="nofollow">Jeffboat</a>, Inc., Jeffersonville, Indiana. Owned by American Commercial Barge Line, Jeffersonville.
