Description A U.S. Navy Douglas A-1H Skyraider (BuNo 137534) of Attack Squadron 165 (VA-165) "Boomers" is armed with napalm canisters aboard the the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVS-11). VA-165 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 10 (CVW-10) aboard the Intrepid for a deployment to Vietnam from 4 April to 21 November 1966.
On 2 September 1966, the A-1H 137534 was hit by ground fire near Vinh Son, 16 km west of Mu Ron Ma, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam. The pilot was able to fly out to the Gulf of Tonkin where he bailed out and was rescued by a U.S. Navy helicopter.
