Summary[edit]

Description A U.S. Navy Douglas A-4C Skyhawk from Attack Squadron VA-172 Blue Bolts returning to the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) after completing a strike over North Vietnam on 20 August 1966. In the foreground are three McDonnell F-4B Phantom II fighters from fighter squadrons VF-14 Tophatters (BuNo 151018, 152318) and VF-32 Swordsmen (BuNo 152320), and an A-4E from VA-12 Flying Ubangis (BuNo 150023). All aircraft were assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 1 (CVW-1) aboard the FDR for a deployment to Vietnam from 21 June 1966 to 21 February 1967.
