Description
English: SS Oakmore of Liverpool

13¼ x 20½in. (33.5 x 52cm.)

Built by Richardson Duck in 1897, Oakmore registered 4547 tons part of the Culmore fleet. Sold to Norwegian owners in 1911, and renamed Benguela . On June 14th 1917, she was on a voyage from Avonmouth to Philadelphia in ballast and was captured by the German submarine U-155 (Karl Meusel). Used for several days as a support vessel, which included capturing another Norwegian ship, the Siraa on 29 June, both Benguela and and Siraa were sunk on 30 June 1917 off the Azores without loss of life.
