Description

Local yachts and ships during Tall Ship race arrival in Auckland, 25 October 2013 - North Head

A11 HMNZS ENDEAVOUR is the Navy's purpose built fleet replenishment tanker. She can refuel ships at sea using the specialised Replenishment at Sea rig, or in overseas ports from the 5,500 tonnes of fuel in her four tanks.

Four containers are also carried to allow stowage of other ships' stores or food, or for shore support missions. Additionally ENDEAVOUR can 'hot' refuel helicopters from her 150 cubic meter tank while the helicopter hovers over the flight deck. ENDEAVOUR's role as a replenishment ship means that she and her ship's company are frequently on the move, carrying supplies and conducting many refuelling missions for the RNZN's surface units and ships of other nations. As well, she has undertaken supply missions for the Department of Conservation to islands in the South Pacific.

A14 HMNZS Resolution (A14) was the hydrographic ship of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). Originally the United States Naval Ship USNS Tenacious (T-AGOS-17), the Stalwart class ocean surveillance ship was used by the United States to locate and track Soviet submarines from 1989 to 1997, when she was transferred to the RNZN for use as a hydrographic survey ship. She served until 27 April 2012.

L421 The Sealift and Amphibious Support Vessel CANTERBURY is the first of seven new ships built for the Royal New Zealand Navy under Project Protector. She is affiliated to the Canterbury Region. She was built at the Merwede Shipyard in the Netherlands, under contract to Tenix. CANTERBURY’s design is based on a commercial RO-RO ship, Ben-My-Chree in operation in the Irish Sea.

CANTERBURY has a diesel-electric propulsion and a maximum speed of just over 19 knots. She provides a sealift capability for the transport and deployment of equipment, vehicles and personnel, and is capable of transferring cargo and personnel ashore in benign conditions (up to sea state 3) when port facilities are not available. CANTERBURY has two 59 tonne Landing Craft Medium (LCM) capable of carrying 50 tonnes at 9 knots with a range of 250 nm.
