Français : Titre : Tonkin, Bac Kan, Ngan Son, 1905 – Le fort

Notice : De 1902 à 1906, le docteur Sallet séjourna au Tonkin et participa à des campagnes de vaccination mobile. C’est à cette occasion qu’il visita la “Haute Région tonkinoise” et en rapporta de nombreuses photos. La “Haute Région tonkinoise” désigne les provinces montagneuses qui entourent le delta du Fleuve Rouge et qui à l’époque où le docteur Sallet y séjourna étaient constituées en “territoires militaires ” en raison des opérations de pacification qui y étaient encore menées. De nombreux forts, fortins ou blockhaus avaient été construits, en particulier le long des voies de communication, pour faciliter ces opérations. D’autres vues du poste de Ngan Son sont données par les vignettes AP0127 et AP1269. La province de Bac Kan (écrit plus correctement Bac Can) est située entre celles de Thai Nguyên et celle de Cao Bang. “C’est la partie la plus pittoresque du Tonkin, où se trouvent les tableaux les plus variés, ainsi qu’un grand nombre de curiosités naturelles. C’est la Suisse tonkinoise, peuplée de races intéressantes, un peu indolentes, mais hospitalières et polies. L’aspect de propreté générale tranche en outre, singulièrement, avec la monotonie boueuse du delta. “ (D’après le Guide Taupin – 1937)
