Français : Titre : Annam, Phan Thiet, 1923 – La Résidence
Notice : Notule : Ville de Phan Thiet Phan Thiet, résidence de France (voir AP0104), siège des autorités de la Province du Binh Thuan, à 864 km de Hué par la Route Mandarine. Plage de sable très étendue. Station balnéaire. Hôtel. L’agglomération de 22.000 hab. s’étale sur les deux rives du Song Ca Ti, à 1 km de la mer. Sur la rive N, le quartier européen dissémine ses cottages dans les jardins sablonneux. Sur les deux berges, le bourg asiatique arrive jusqu’à la mer. Marché important, où se coudoient les Chinois du Sud, les Annamites, les Cham de la plaine, les Malaisiens et les Indonésiens de la montagne (voir AP0391). Sur la rivière, les sampans déchargent leur pêche fructueuse. Le long de la route, s’alignent des jarres pleines de nuoc-mam, mixture malodorante (Sic !) que les jonques exportent en Chine (voir AP0066). La province produit du poisson, riz, tabac, maïs, canne à sucre, ananas cocos, arec, pastèques, bananes, oranges, mangues. Les Cham, anciens maîtres du pays habitent en arrière de la côte, entre les Annamites des vallées basses et les Indonésiens de la montagne. Ils ont laissé des vestiges de quelques monuments, en particulier à Pho Hai (voir AP0188). Le docteur Sallet a été médecin chef de l’hôpital de Phan Thiet en 1927-1928 (voir AP0068).
