| Description |
Community members gathered at Lyndale Avenue South and West 25th Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota, near where pedestrian Teddy Ferrara had recently been hit and killed by a driver. The group crossed back and forth across Lyndale Avenue, many holding signs encouraging vehicles to slow down and demanding city and county officials focus on designing a safer road for pedestrians and cyclists. During the course of the 45-minute event, there were several tense moments between drivers and demonstrators. Several drivers yelled at pedestrians to get out of the way, but though the intersection lacks a marked crosswalk, it is legal for pedestrians to cross, and state law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians. Police were called to the scene with a report of five demonstrators being hit by a car, but there were no reports of any injuries. |
