Summary[edit]

Description

This red-eyed beauty - an adult (juvenile have orange eyes) was resting on the wire delicately balancing itself in the wind. During the couple of hours I was there, the bird hunted several times, but wasn't successful even once. I guess the hovering requires considerable energy and after hovering a few times it rests for quite a while before the next hunt. In the past, it was sighted with Voles, rats, small birds and lizards. The success rate in my view seems quite less - maybe 50%. And it is not uncommon to see 3-4 birds hunting within same region (not the same prey though) without being very territorial.
