Summary[edit]
DescriptionA Brown Capped Pygmy Woodpecker in action (51022045101).jpg |
This bird is the smallest woodpecker of the 10+ species of woodpeckers found here in the Indian subcontinent . They are mostly found in canopy forests and on trees where insects could be found on the bark. Just like other woodpeckers, they are again heard easily due to the tapping they do on the trees. The tapping is done for many reasons such as making hollows for nests, but mostly to identify weak parts / gaps in the branch / stem which will probably have insects in them. On this day, we sighted maybe a dozen woodpeckers in total, 3 different species though. They were found around each other. Many thanks in advance for your views and feedback. Much appreciated. |
