Summary[edit]

Description

A typical behavior demonstrated by many Shrikes, the bird sits on dry branch around 2-3 meters high and surveys the nearby area, often within 10 meters for any insects or small larvae etc... Once it identifies the prey, it quickly dives, catches and gets back to the perch. On this occasion, we didn't see any action and it was waiting for quite a while. A White throated Kingfisher meanwhile caught a beetle I think, just about 20-25 meters away from this bird.

Brown Shrikes are migratory birds for sure and are sighted during winters in India. I suppose they migrate from Northern / Eastern China, but not pretty sure. They are not common as compared to their other cousins, the Long Tailed Shrike and the Bay Backed Shrike which are seen lot more.
