Summary
[edit]DescriptionA colossal pair of classical statues dedicated to Kanglasha, the ancient Meitei dragon lion deity, standing inside the Kangla Fort in Imphal.jpg |
English: The image shows a pair of statues dedicated to Meitei mythical dragon lion Kanglasha located inside the Kangla fort in Imphal. Kanglasha is a single individual but his sculptures are usually displayed either in dual (2) or quadruple (4). These statues are meant for protection of the royalties from the evil spirits. These are made up of bricks and mortars. After getting destroyed by the British Army during the annexation of the Kangla fort, as a result of the Anglo-Manipuri war in 1891, these two structures were rebuilt and repaired by the Government of Manipur after getting independence from the British Empire. In Meitei language (officially known as Manipuri language), "Kanglasha" means "Beast of the Kangla". Kanglasha is also known as Nongshaba (literally, " The Male Lion" in Meitei language).
