| Description |
English: On September 28, 2021, the Anchorage Assembly began consideration of a proposed mask mandate to counter a record-shattering COVID-19 surge. The proposal generated significant controversy and drew fierce opposition from some residents. On September 28 and 29, many members of the audience displayed yellow Stars of David in an attempt to draw parallels between the proposed mask mandate and the Holocaust. Anchorage mayor Dave Bronson voiced support for the use of the stars by protesters on September 29. On September 30, 2021, following an outpouring of local and national condemnation, Bronson apologized for his words, stating that "if I offended anyone, I am truly sorry."
