| Description | After doing full justice to the plinthed steam locomotive # 340 in the Chiang Mai station forecourt, it was time to hit the road again. The clock was ticking, and there was an hour and a half to go before my flight. 'No boomboom'? my taxi driver re-confirmed for the nth time, No way. We now had to turn left and go along the train line itself alongside CM train station. I saw two trains readying for departure. Now this I had to see! The first of the trains seen here is a less glamourous one, a routine working. The diesel locomotive seen here is State Railway of Thailand's AD24C (ALS) class engine # 4106. Locomotives of this class bear serial numbers 4101-4154, so as you can see, Thai Railways has quite a few of them. 54 of them were built in all, and the first batch came in around 1974–1975. With a 2400 hp powerpack, some of them were refurbished with new German MTU Friedrichshafen Diesel engines. (Chiang Mai, Thailand, Apr. 2014) |
