English: This image, taken in early August 2023, shows Cerro Armazones in the Chilean Atacama Desert from a distance. Perched on top of the mountain is ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), currently under construction. With an altitude of 3046 metres, Cerro Armazones is located some 130 kilometres south of the town of Antofagasta and about 20 kilometres from Cerro Paranal, home of ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). |
