De Sjouwer, monument in Aalbeke. Aalbeke, Kortrijk, West Flanders, Belgium Français : "De Sjouwer" est un monument en béton de 35 mètres de haut situé aux abords de l'autoroute E17 dans le sens France-Belgique dans le village belge d'Aalbeke, section de la Ville de Courtrai.
Le monument érigé par l'architecte Jacques Moeschal est inauguré en octobre 1974. De Sjouwer a été construit sur une colline artificielle par la suppression d'une couche de limon, pour arriver à un terrain plus stable, pour un trafic autoroutier. Le monument a été érigé en l'honneur des travailleurs de Flandre occidentale qui ont traversé la frontière pour travailler en France qu'ils fussent réguliers ou saisonniers ; en effet, de 1930 à 1960, de nombreux Flamands allaient effectuer de difficiles travaux saisonniers dans la région du Nord-Pas-de-Calais. |
