English: Abstract symbols often stand for the fascination of science. Not understanding or not even knowing these symbols may enhance that feeling, at least for lay people. The unintelligibility of the symbols underlines that point.

Also, by being abstract, the images to not give any cultural bias to the notion conveyed.

This image here is a cropped version of another image. By cropping it some misgenerated elbows at the the bottom of the image have been removed.
