DescriptionAcacia Cottage, Cornwall Park, 2005.jpg |
Acacia Cottage is Auckland's oldest surviving building. When John Logan Campbell first settled in Auckland, he and his partner John Brown built this cottage, moving into it in 1841. It was originally sited off Shortland Street, in what was then a tiny pioneer settlement on the harbour edge and is now the heart of the city. His trading store was a short walk away. Campbell lived in much grander homes as his wealth increased. The cottage was moved to Cornwall Park in 1920 and has been restored and furnished as it may have been early in its life. |
