Title
Adelaide City View from Wakefield Street, 1916
Description

This is a view across the south east area of the city showing Wakefield Street, east of St Francis Xavier's Cathedral near Victoria Square. It is dated 5 December 1916. The 1916 Sands and MacDougall's Directory listing suggests that the premises in the foreground are Mr Wood's building materials yard at No. 60. On the opposte south side of Wakefield Street can be seen from left the South Australian Fire Brigade, a signage company (Lykke and Co, painters and decorators), Chancery Lane, a sheetmetal business (Errey and Co), and Oehme and Swann (cycle and motor manufacture and repair). The prevalence of motor works in the area is noteworthy. The Old Colonists Hotel on the corner of Angas Street and Chancery Lane can also be seen.

Microfiche incorrectly states Ref. is 463 instead of 403
