Deutsch: Die Legende berichtet, dass der heiliggesprochene Koloman ein irischer Königssohn gewesen sein soll. Auf seiner Pilgerreise in das Heilige Land nach Jerusalem gelangt Koloman in die Nähe von Stockerau. Da er wie ein Ausländer aussieht und die deutsche Sprache nicht beherrscht, wird er als Spion verhaftet, verhört, gefoltert und am 17. Juli 1012 an einem kahlen Baum erhängt. Als ein zum Tode Verurteilter bleibt er dort hängen und wird nicht begraben. Der Baum treibt plötzlich grüne Blätter und zeigt damit nach damaliger Auffassung an, dass Koloman ein Märtyrer Christi gewesen ist. Daraufhin wird Koloman in Stockerau begraben. Der Markgraf Heinrich läßt Kolomans Körper, der nicht verwest, exhumieren und am 13. Oktober 1014 in Melk beisetzen. Das Bild zeigt Folterung von Adi Holzer aus dem Koloman Zyklus von 1986. Das Bild trägt den folgenden Eintrag des Malers Adi Holzer: "Koloman wird wegen seines fremdländischen Gehabens als Spion verdächtigt und gefoltert."
English: Coloman is a saint of the Catholic Church. He was an Irish pilgrim en route to the Holy Land and was mistaken for a spy because of his strange appearance, examinated, tortured, and hanged at Stockerau, near Vienna, Austria, on 17 July 1012. The leafless tree was green again and pointed to the fact that he was wearing a martyr of Christ. The Margrave Heinrich left Coloman body on October 13, 1014 buried in Melk. The image Die Folterung (The torture) is made by Adi Holzer in the year 1986. It is a part of the Koloman Zyklus from the year 1986. |
