English: Adinath Temple is located at Chobhar Danda in the historical city of Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu District at an altitude of 5000 feet above sea level. This temple is located east of Kirtipur. This temple is a unique example of the metalwork and woodwork of the time. Inside the artistic temple, there is also a red idol of Ardhanarishvara. This deity is considered by Vaishnavism as Laxminarayan, by Shaivites as Shiva Parvati and by Buddhists as Ananandadi Lokeshwar. There are various other temples inside this temple and utensils can be seen on the walls around the temple. Suppose the temple is decorated with utensils. Historians say that the temple was started by the seventh century ruler Anshu Burma and completed during the time of Srinivasa Malla. This is a new feature of Mahadev's temple as it is seen to have maney around this temple. This temple is actually an example temple in Nepal.
The place where the temple now stands was inhabited by the Tibetan god Changrasi. While trying to take the deity from Hanumadhoka to Chobhar, he turned into the Balkhu river. At that time, the Tibetans kidnapped him. After that, there is a belief that a new idol of Adinath was replaced. Devotees offering utensils here in particular means that utensils can be used after the afterlife and there is a belief that if utensils are offered, the disease will be cured. In this temple, devotees bathe in Nakhu every year on the day of Chaitra Krishna Ashtami, and on the day after Ram Navami, the pilgrimage to Adinath continues. Also, it looks like a fair from Kojagrat Punirma to Kartik Shukla Punirma. While worshiping in this temple, it is customary for the priest to leave the text here in exchange for the sacrifice that no one should touch. As the temple is located at a high altitude, the view of the valley from here is breathtaking and the snow-capped peaks look beautiful during the clear weather. |
