Description

Aerial view of Fish Island and eastern Rock Island in the town of Washington Island, Door County, Wisconsin, taken July 28, 2020. Lake levels were high at the time of the photo, reducing the size of the islands. Although the Wisconsin DNR has claimed Fish Island is under USFWS management[1](page 65, pdf page 72), in 2013 the USFWS wrongly stated that the island was privately owned.[2] (page 197, page 207 of the pdf) Actually the island is owned by the federal government,[3] although it is not part of the Green Bay Wildlife Refuge or the Gravel Island Wildlife Refuge. Fish Island has been used for geocaching.
