Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Geographic distribution of the African reed warbler (Acrocephalus baeticatus)

The taxonomy is based on the IOC:

  • Gill, Frank; Donsker, David; Rasmussen, Pamela, eds. (January 2022). "Bushtits, leaf warblers, reed warblers". IOC World Bird List Version 12.1. International Ornithologists' Union. Retrieved 12 June 2022.

Note that BirdLife International (and thus the IUCN) lumps the Eurasian reed warbler with the African reed warbler.

The distribution map is based on:

  • Dyrcz, A. (2006). "African Reed-warbler". In del Hoyo, J.; Elliott, A.; Sargatal, J. (eds.). Handbook of the Birds of the World. Vol. 11: Old Word flycatchers to Old World Warblers. Barcelona, Spain: Lynx Edicions. p. 621. ISBN 978-84-96553-06-4.

The distribution in the Iberian Peninsula and north Africa is that shown for the Eurasian reed warbler in:

  • Dyrcz, A. (2006). "Eurasian Reed-warbler". In del Hoyo, J.; Elliott, A.; Sargatal, J. (eds.). Handbook of the Birds of the World. Vol. 11: Old Word flycatchers to Old World Warblers. Barcelona, Spain: Lynx Edicions. pp. 620–621. ISBN 978-84-96553-06-4.

The IOC combined these ranges based on:

  • Olsson, U.; Rguibi-Idrissi, H.; Copete, J.L.; Arroyo Matos, J.L.; Provost, P.; Amezian, M.; Alström, P.; Jiguet, F. (2016). "Mitochondrial phylogeny of the Eurasian/African reed warbler complex (Acrocephalus, Aves). Disagreement between morphological and molecular evidence and cryptic divergence: A case for resurrecting Calamoherpe ambigua Brehm 1857". Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution. 102: 30–44. doi:10.1016/j.ympev.2016.05.026.

The base map uses data from Natural Earth https://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/ (50m files). The map was draw using QGIS 3.24. The projection is EPSG:3857 WGS 84/Pseudo-Mercator. The option to output an SVG file is broken so that the output includes features outside the area of interest. The extra features were removed and the distribution added using Inkscape 1.1 running under Windows 11.
