尾張藩の御焼物師であった加藤利慶が前津小林村 （名古屋市中区） にて創業し、 江戸時代後期から大正年間まで8代、 130年以上続いた。 明治以降は、 6代がパリ万国博覧会 （1878年） に出品するなど、 名古屋を代表するやきものとして知られていた。
