[edit]DescriptionAlba Bible 49r.l.jpg |
English: The second dream of Joseph, who wears the coat his father gave him. The caption, written before the miniature was made, reads: 'Figura de Josep con su rroquete labrado a escaques' ('Picture of Joseph with his checked cloak').
In this, the first miniature of the Joseph cycle, Joseph is seated in the middle of a square field, one leg folded under him. He is wearing a long orange robe with white flecks and silver checks. The silvery moon to the left and the golden sun to the right have faces, and are surrounded by golden stars both inside and outside the frame of the miniature. Joseph's head is turned towards the moon and his body towards the sun. He holds out one hand to the sun and points to the right with the other, towards the first dream, illustrated in the second text column. |
