Deutsch: Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) Stich von J. J. Freidhof nach dem Gemälde von J. G. Weitsch. Botaniker, Physiker, Chemiker, Physiolog, Geograph, der große Naturforscher Goethischer Epoche, der Verfasser des "Kosmos", durch vierzig Jahre mit Goethe verbunden. Hervorgehoben als öffentlicher Ausdruck dieser Beziehung sei Humboldts Zueignung der "Ideen zu einer Geographie der Pflanzen", 1807 - hierdurch die moderne Plflanzengeographie gegründet - an Goethe; die Anregung bei diesem, die "Höhen der alten und neuen Welt bildlich verglichen" - die erste solcher Darstellungen (zwar erst 1813 publiziert) - zu zeichnen und sie Humboldt zu widmen
