Summary
[edit]DescriptionAllard Pierson Museum Rider from the steppes 7772.jpg |
English: A horseman from the steppes?
Intensive trading relations contribute to how alien people far away are depicted in all cultures. These images which are notorious by mythology and stories do not always fit reality. In this way in Greece stereotypes of other peoples in Egypt and Persia developed. This statuette of a rider, the horse is lacking, was found in the Egyptian Memphis. The pointed beard and hat suggest this is an Asian rider from the steppes, but it’s unclear if it is a Scythian or Persian. Earthenware, Memphis (Egypt), 500-400 BC (inv. 7198)
Nederlands: Een steppenruiter?
Aardewerk. Memphis (Egypte), 500-400 v. Chr. (inv. 7198) |
