Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Allyn K. Welker House, 50 West Winspear Avenue, Buffalo, New York, January 2021. Built in 1925, the house serves essentially as a primer on the principles of "Craftsman Dutch" architecture: a style that was popular at the time, is especially common in the University Heights neighborhood in the city's far northeast corner, and, as its name indicates, combines elements of Arts & Crafts and Dutch Colonial Revival architecture. All the classic features are present: a gambrel roof with flared sides (these are known as "kicks"); widely overhanging roof eaves especially on the side elevations; a handsome lunette window crowning the front gable and bedecked with wheel tracery; an enclosed front porch with a second-floor balcony above. The house's original owner was Allyn Kenneth Welker (1903-1982), a long-serving clerk at the downtown post office. Welker lived in the house until at least 1959, and possibly as late as 1970.
