Description
English: Grumman/Eastern Aircraft TBM-3E Avenger (BuNo 85886, c/n 2705, N9586Z) in the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale, New York on Long Island. The Grumman TBF Avenger (designated TBM for aircraft manufactured by General Motors) was a torpedo bomber developed initially for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, and eventually used by several air or naval arms around the world. It entered U.S. service in 1942, and first saw action during the Battle of Midway.

De Avenger was een Amerikaanse torpedobommenwerper die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog dienst deed in het gebied rond de Stille Oceaan. De Avengers waren gestationeerd op vliegkampschepen en op militaire vliegvelden van de Amerikaanse marine stonden.
