English: Palm Sunday Christ (Christ on a donkey, right hand extended in salutation, left holding rein; gold-colored cruciform halo). The art-historical term for this statue type is the Palmesel. Wood, gesso, paint; glass eyes; about 3' (90 cm.) from figure's head to ass's foot. The statue of Jesus is in the church of Santa Ana del Valle, Oaxaca, Mexico, on the right end of the altar with the Crucifixion group along the right wall of the nave. |
